The Brief
London-based music label Anjunadeep reached out to me to help contribute creatively to the release of Japanese deep house artist Qrion's album named "I Hope It Lasts Forever" The task was to design a Japanese mascot that captured Qrion's personality, heritage and personal hobbies. This design would be then scaled across different assets, such as 8-bit pixel style sprites that would be featured in visualisers for the singles and the final album release on Spotify Canvas and YouTube.
These sprites would also be repurposed for potential use as Twitch emotes as well.
For Qrion's character, I developed an arctic-blue snow fox, making reference to her heritage in Sapporo, and its shy yet independent nature.
The animated sprites were then created in Asesprite, before being composited into the final visualisers in After Effects by the studio team at Anjunadeep.
Finally, the brief required illustrations to be made to create a temporary tattoo flash sheet, inspired by the main music video and other songs off the album. This unique piece of print collateral was included in the pressed vinyl release.
This project was a deeply gratifying experience,
having been a huge fan of the Anjunadeep label for many years.
